Ms. Alt focuses on criminal defense cases and civil protection order cases.
After graduating cum laude from University of Wisconsin Law School in 2002, Ms. Alt was privileged to work for the Colorado Public Defender for nearly seven years. During her time both in Pueblo, and metro Denver, Ms. Alt handled thousands of criminal cases ranging from DUI to Murder. During her years of service, Ms. Alt has obtained not guilty verdicts for clients in sexual assault, kidnapping, first degree homicide and many other types of cases.
In addition Ms. Alt has shared her experience and assisted in teaching other attorneys trial skills, and legal strategy.
In 2009, Ms. Alt left the Public Defender’s office in metro Denver to move to Durango with her family. From 2009-2010 Ms. Alt maintained a solo practice specializing in criminal defense and family law. She also contracted with the state to serve as Guardian ad Litem for children involved in delinquency, domestic, and dependency and neglect cases.
In 2010, Ms. Alt was honored to join the law firm of Greenberg and Herringer which in 2013, became the law firm of Greenberg, McGuinness and Alt, now named Durango Justice Advocates.
Ms. Alt is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar, the Colorado Bar Association, the National College of DUI defense, and the United States District of Colorado Criminal Justice Act Panel. Ms. Alt is admitted to practice in the state of Colorado, the United States District Court for the District of Colorado, and the Southern Ute Tribe, and the State of Wisconsin.
In 2019, Ms. Alt was appointed by the Governor to serve on the 6th judicial District Nominating Commission.
In her free time, Ms. Alt enjoys spending time with her family, and her mountain bike.
